FACTOR: Diversity & Inclusion Observer

In my role as the inaugural Diversity and Inclusion Observer for FACTOR (The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings), I have had the unique opportunity to influence and guide the organization towards a more inclusive and equitable future for all participants in the Canadian music sector. This position was established to embody FACTOR's commitment to diversity and inclusivity, focusing on ensuring that its programs and operations reflect the diverse tapestry of Canadian society. My responsibilities have included acting as a conduit for the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee's insights, leveraging their collective knowledge to refine FACTOR's decision-making, program development, and policy frameworks. Through this lens, prioritizing the inclusion of diverse people, places, and ways of being within the music industry, aiming to dismantle systemic barriers and foster a more inclusive environment for all.

FACTOR's comprehensive approach to diversity and inclusion encompasses various strategic initiatives. These include gathering detailed demographic data on all applicants, ensuring that the jury pool reflects Canada's diversity, and revising funding programs to better support Black, Indigenous, Persons of Colour, women, LGBTQ2, and people with disabilities. A significant increase in the Sponsorship program budget is a clear indicator of FACTOR's commitment to these values. My role involved closely working with the organization to refine its programs and operations to better meet the needs of diverse communities, through both comprehensive outreach and targeted training efforts. As a direct result of these initiatives, FACTOR is actively advancing inclusivity within the Canadian music sector, ensuring a broad and celebrated representation of Canada's rich musical talent.
