Riverside Walk: Cultural Gateway Study

As part of the MSc Space Syntax: Architecture and Cities program at UCL, our project delved into the spatial analysis and design of the Riverside Walk in the City of London. Utilizing space syntax methodology, we assessed the area’s configurational properties to understand its integration and connectivity within the urban fabric. Our analysis revealed that the Riverside Walk, while centrally located, is underutilized as a cultural and social conduit due to its poor spatial integration and accessibility.

Our recommendations aimed to enhance the walk's functionality and appeal as a continuous urban landscape, fostering connectivity and interaction. By proposing interventions like improved pedestrian pathways, strategic placement of cultural landmarks, and the incorporation of green spaces, we sought to elevate the Riverside Walk's role in the city’s spatial network. These enhancements are designed to facilitate a seamless urban experience, promoting the Riverside Walk as an integral part of London's cultural and social spine, in alignment with the principles taught in the Space Syntax program.
