ISEA: Hip Hop & Technology

In the lecture "Hip Hop & Technology" presented at the ISEA2012 symposium, I examined the relationship between Hip Hop culture and the parallel developments in urban environments and technological innovations from the 1970s to the present. This analysis positioned Hip Hop not merely as a cultural artifact but as an active participant in shaping technological and urban landscapes. Originating within the context of significant urban change, Hip Hop offers a nuanced perspective for understanding the convergence of creativity, technology, and urban life. By illustrating how Hip Hop artists have creatively engaged with technological advancements, from turntable techniques to digital production, the discussion emphasized Hip Hop's role as a catalyst for innovation in urban settings. Additionally, the lecture explored Hip Hop's global dissemination, illustrating its role in the digital era and its impact on connecting diverse urban communities. The aim was to highlight Hip Hop's significant contribution to our comprehension and shaping of the dynamic interplay among cultural expression, technological progress, and urban development.
